Transformation and Futility: a queer deconstruction of space brings together a series of works that reflect on transmutation and perception: how it is that past and present, ideas and feelings, human and non-humans can morph and meld.

The sculptures in this series made from acrylic glass work as captured transitions, glimpses of what happens in a fleeting change of state. As poetic drawings the works offer diagrams of gender representation, sexuality, and desire. More challenge than explanation, the material and gestures of the works – hard lines and structural grids juxtaposed with softer overlays of pattern and light – create a sense of immanence. There is more to understand, when we just look, when we do the work, hold ourselves in a space of stillness, attention.

Light is a vital element across the works, drawing shadows and plumbing new depths, the light calls out our false ideas of the passing of time: history and memories follow no singular path, no arc of an arrow. Transformation and Futility: a queer deconstruction of space invites reflection on transition; on the deconstrucution and rebuilding of space; on the void that seeps between and supports the fabrications of space and time we build our lives from.
