Charles Beverly Hughes (attributed to) American


Little is known about Charles Beverly Hughes beyond the stamp on the back of his photographs. The label, “C. Beverly Hughes, Amateur Photographer, Benning CA” indicates the photographer was located in Southern California. Based on information from RootsWeb, a division of, it is believed that Hughes had a hunting lodge in the San Jacinto Mountains and was one of the first photographers in the area. Many of his historic photographs are of the surrounding landscape or documentation of his latest deer. Much of this information is courtesy of Robert B. Smith of Idyllwild, CA, who found an old suitcase of photographs belonging to C. Beverly Hughes. Robert Smith was the former curator of the Idyllwild Area Historical Society in Idyllwild, California.
