Lee Materazzi Miami, Florida, b. 1982
Lee Materazzi is a contemporary artist who was born in Miami, FL but now living in San Francisco, CA. In 2005, she received her BFA in sculpture from Central Saint Martins in London. Her work challenges the line between performance, installation, and sculpture, which she materializes and documents through medium format photography. Her subject matter is inspired by the mundane and readily available materials— a folding chair or a role of tape. She uses her body alongside these materials and experiments with color, composition, and balance.
The end result creates a sculptural and performative scene for the camera that makes us think about social roles, routines, and gestures that frequently are overlooked within our everyday lives.
Materazzi’s work has been shown internationally and is in the collections of the Perez Art Museum Miami, The Margulies Collection at the Warehouse, Miami, FL; and the Debra and Dennis Scholl Collection, Miami, FL. Her work has been exhibited at the Naples Museum of Art in Florida and the California Center for the Arts, Escondido, CA, among other venues.
